Types of Jackhammers

Posted on: 23 April 2020

The jackhammer trolley is an essential demolition tool for any contractor working with any type of floor removal. This convenient tool allows vinyl, ceramic and cork tiles to be removed from both concrete and wooden surfaces at a much faster rate (up to 6 times faster!) than any other tool. In addition to this, the jackhammer trolley is also used to remove any residue that remains on tile beds following the removal process. There are various types of jackhammer trolleys available. These are not only powerful but also ergonomically designed to minimise any vibration impact on the person operating the jackhammer. This helps to reduce back issues and fatigue in the user.

Choosing a Jackhammer

Although jackhammers are used for their demolition power, they can also come in handy for more fragile operations such as removing delicate tiles or accessing walls and ceilings. This is why it is important to select the right type and size of jackhammer with the proper attachment.

Type of Project

The type of jackhammer suitable for a project depends upon what type of project it is needed for. If it is required for an interior wall, then one needs to define what type of wall it is: load-bearing or partition. In addition to this, it is also important to know what type of material the wall is made of whether it is stone, concrete or another type of material. The thickness of the wall is also an important factor to consider when choosing a jackhammer. Thicker walls will require a more powerful jackhammer. Some walls require a smaller jackhammer that can work horizontally.

For demolition projects, a heavy-duty jackhammer is required. Jackhammers that are smaller in size can run on home power, while more powerful ones may be hydraulic or petrol-powered.

Types of attachments

Once the size and type of jackhammer is selected based upon project details, the final step is deciding which type of attachments to purchase. Here are the main types of jackhammer attachments:

  1. Floor scraper and broad chisel are best for the removal of tiles and lino. These are used at an angle to make it easier to get beneath the tile and lift it away from the ground.
  2. A narrow chisel attachment is suitable for the demolition of concrete slabs. The narrowness of the chisel means that the jackhammer can focus all its power on the thin edge of the concrete edge to demolish it.

It is important to discuss all of these points with the jackhammer retailer before making a purchase. Discuss jackhammer trolleys with a company like Crozier Diamond Tools Aust Pty Ltd near you.
